Off payroll staff – tax, tax, tax – a seminar on the rules and the risk
THIS EVENT IS NOW CLOSED
Whether you hire or supply staff, contractors or casual workers, and/or work with an ‘umbrella’ company, do you fully know your tax risk?
IR35 has dominated the tax conversation for many years, and it would be easy to lose sight of other tax regulations that could impact you.
A recent report suggested that HMRC is claiming some £50m underpaid PAYE and NICs under the Managed Service Company (MSC) rules, which have applied since 2007. Whilst the claim is initially against the 1000 contractors concerned, the debt under these rules could be transferred to the hirer and agency directors. This may the tip of the iceberg given the apparent widespread use of infringing methods by some accountancy groups and payment service providers as alleged by HMRC.
At this seminar, the Lawspeed team will take a look at the relevant rules, identifying when, how and why they apply and the steps that can be taken to minimise financial and other risks. You’ll hear directly from a representative of HMRC who will present on HMRC’s position now and into the future. At the same time the agency conduct regulations are relevant and so you will also hear from a representative of the Employment Agency Inspectorate.
The topics we will discuss include:
- MSC Rules and Debt transfer
- Agency Tax Rules
- Employment status for tax
- IR35 in practice
- The role of payroll providers and umbrella companies
- The relevance of Agency Conduct rules
- Is third party assurance sufficient protection?
